Organize incoming vinyl shutter orders by square footage and date required.
Vinyl-Tek uses proprietary software called "ShutterPro" that, when given measurements and variables, would produce the proper documentation and labels for the manufacturing of a vinyl shutter order. However, once the paper work is printed, it doesn't have a way to keep track of orders. If someone needed to see the status of an order, they had to go to the manufacturing floor and find the folder with the paperwork in it.
Previously, orders were tracked of using excel spreadsheets, printing out weekly production sheets for the plant manager. Any changes to production required someone to find the production list and either replace pages or write by hand the required updates. Customer that would call inquiring about their order would only get vague ideas as to when it would be ready. Realizing that a lot of the required work could be automated, a web based system was developed that would allow anyone to monitor and update orders and production schedule from any networked device in the office.
The largest obstacle was finding a way to get order and customer information from ShutterPro into the system's MYSQL database. ShutterPro encrypts all database information using a USB encryption key, preventing any un-authorized access. After some research, a way to piggy back off ShutterPro was created using a few key tools. A special printer driver was installed on the ShutterPro computer that would print to both a printer and to a pdf file. Next, A PHP script would execute that would parse through the TEXT of all PDF sheets that were printed. The information from those PDF sheets is then inputted into the database.
From that point it was very easy to create sub-systems and apps to do such things as
